Moon Made Farms is a female-owned regenerative sungrown cannabis farm nestled in Garberville, California, deep in the legendary Emerald Triangle. Founded by Tina Gordon, the farm integrates medicine, ecology, and craft cultivation, guided by the belief that cannabis grown in harmony with nature yields the most potent and expressive flower.

Since starting as Serendipity Collective in 2009 and evolving into Moon Made Farms in 2015, the team’s mission has remained expanding access to intentional, transparent, and land-respectful organic sungrown cannabis.
Their philosophy is simple. Cannabis cultivated under the sun and the moon can deepen the human relationship with this ancient plant.

A Regenerative Sungrown Cannabis Farm in Humboldt County
At Moon Made Farms, cultivation is about stewardship.
The farm operates as a living ecosystem nestled within an oak grove in Humboldt County, using a technique as old as the Incas (1400-1533 CE) called terrace farming.
Terrace farming follows the natural contours of hillsides, allowing the land to shape plant growth. Instead of forcing the environment to accommodate the plant, Moon Made Farms works with sunlight, fresh air, living soil, and natural biodiversity, all of which contribute to the final expression of each harvest.

Founder Tina Gordon personally oversees quality across the farm.
“I personally have eyes on every plant and every pound that leaves the farm,” Gordon explains. “Every bud is a gem. Someone is going to smoke every bud and have an experience. We want people to have the best possible experiences they can when they smoke our flower.”
Across California, interest in sungrown cannabis has been steadily growing as consumers and retailers rediscover the terpene expression and complexity that outdoor cultivation can produce. Farms throughout Humboldt County and the broader Emerald Triangle are helping lead this shift, while demonstrating how regenerative agriculture can deliver both environmental sustainability and exceptional cannabis.
The Lunar Inspiration Behind Moon Made Farms
According to Gordon, Moon Made Farms began with a moment of curiosity beneath a Humboldt County night sky.
Shortly after moving from San Francisco to a cannabis farm in Humboldt, Gordon found herself standing beneath a full moon watching the light fall across the plants.
That experience sparked new exploration: “How does this celestial light affect a photosensitive plant like cannabis? My research into lunar farming revealed that every subtle shift of the moon, along with all environmental influences, shapes the expression of this plant—and indeed, all living things.”
Through that exploration, Gordon developed a philosophy centered on the interplay of genetics, epigenetics, and natural rhythms. That every environmental shift can influence the plant's final expression. This philosophy became the foundation of Moon Made Farms.
Golden Guide to Craft Cannabis Cultivation

Moon Made Farms operates with a small, dedicated team where everyone wears multiple hats, and every plant receives direct attention.
According to Gordon, the team operates by five “golden guides” that shape their daily cultivation practices:
- Living things come first.
- Have eyes on every plant every day.
- Tune in with all of your senses.
- Be the plant.
- State your needs.
To some degree, these principles are shared by many Emerald Triangle cultivators, and some of the best farmers in the industry would tell you that the best cannabis is grown in a close relationship with the plant and its environment.
Signature Sungrown Flower: The Queen Cola

Moon Made Farms is best known for its small-batch flower releases.
One of the farm’s most distinctive offerings is the aptly named Queen Cola.
The Queen Cola is a 24-gram flower preserved on the stem and displayed under glass, a la the rose from Beauty and the Beast. Instead of separating buds during processing, the cola remains intact, bringing the cured plant directly from the farm to the consumer.
The result is both a centerpiece and a sensory experience designed to be shared and appreciated as an expression of the whole plant.
Discussing Queen Cola, Gordon said, “This plant plays a major role, and many of us are in a deep relationship with this plant. I believe the Queen cola helps us understand this relationship by bringing us closer to the source.”
Harvest Season in Humboldt: A Community Tradition
One of the most memorable recent moments for the Moon Made community came during harvest season.
Last October, the farm hosted a sunrise harvest gathering that brought together more than 30 women to celebrate the culmination of the growing season. At 6 a.m., the group gathered in the fields as DJ Grace KTown played music, marking the start of the harvest.
Harvest represents the seasonal peak of cannabis cultivation and the culmination of nearly eight months of hundreds of decisions and tweaks to soil, irrigation, genetics, and environmental conditions. “It’s deep, it’s challenging, and it’s gorgeous,” stated Gordon
For Gordon, the moment captured the farm's whimsy: “It felt like running a marathon through a field of flowers while vibrating on a higher plane…while high.”
What’s Next for Moon Made Farms

Today, Moon Made Farms continues building momentum within California’s craft sungrown cannabis movement.
The farm has earned recognition across several major cannabis competitions, including:
- Headstash Award for Best Greenhouse Flower (Hawaiian Fanta)
- The Farmer’s Cup for Best Overall Sativa (Hella Jelly)

Looking ahead, the team is preparing to expand into new product formats and collaborations.
Rigorous testing of Moon Made’s live rosin is complete, with terpene-rich 2-gram live rosin buckets expected to launch soon. The farm also continues collaborating with respected breeding partners, including Humboldt Seed Company, Biovortex, and Huckleberry Hill Farms, as well as with product collaborators A Good Witch, Blue Sage, MUSE, and Sespe Creek.
Beyond products, Moon Made Farms is exploring deeper connections between cannabis and culture. Through art collaborations, including work with the Haight Street Art Center, the team continues to celebrate the plant’s role in creativity and community.
Through it all, the mission remains the same: cultivate exceptional sungrown cannabis that inspires creativity, connection, and a deeper appreciation for the plant.
